Your journey begins in Samarkand – a city whose blue domes have drawn travellers of the Great Silk Road for centuries.
On the first day, you will visit the Mausoleum of Saint Daniel, the ancient Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum (burial place of Amir Timur), and the magnificent Registan Square with its three madrasas: Ulugbek, Sher-Dor, and Tilya-Kori. The walk concludes at the Bibi-Khanym Mosque and the colourful Siyob Bazaar, where you can buy Samarkand bread and oriental sweets.
The second day belongs to Bukhara – one of the world’s oldest cities, whose name echoes the Sanskrit word for “monastery”. Founded, according to legend, by the son of the Iranian king Siyavush, Bukhara has lost none of its beauty and grandeur. You will see the 47-metre Kalyan Minaret, the Mir-i-Arab and Kukeldash madrasas, the charming Lyab-i-Hauz ensemble with the Divan-Begi madrasa and khanaka, as well as the 2nd-century BC Ark Citadel, the 10th-century Samanid Mausoleum, and the 1712 Bolo Hauz Mosque.
